Honestly, I have found that these berry bowls prolong the freshness and hold off mushy-ness and mold, when compared keeping your fruits and veggies in their original containers. The holes allow for air circulation, and that's the secret.
The bowls are thrown on the potter's wheel, and then the holes are painstakingly carved when the bowl is leather-hard. When the bowl has dried, all of the pokey pieces of clay are carefully sanded off, and the whole thing is then fired, glazed, and fired again. It's a long process, but the results are worth it!
